The Company
The company
founded in 1842 in Lörrach under the name “KERN”, has been engaged in the design of cycle, CNC and conventional lathes as well as the accompanying services from its beginning. In 1930, the Kern company began to build lathes and, thanks to the high quality of its products, very quickly achieved a significant market position and an excellent reputation, both with customers and in the mechanical engineering industry. Commercial problems, an economic slump and the loss of the sole distributing partner forced the well established leading manufacturer of lathes into insolvency in 1992. One year later, in 1993, five former Kern employees founded DMT Drehmaschinen GmbH & Co KG at Gewerbestrasse 18 in Lörrach. In the same year, the first CD 480 type lathes were sold. Due to continued ongoing development, these lathes remain one of the most-sold lathes in the DMT range. Through innovative developments and designs, the product range and the company premises expanded with great success.

With the aim of achieving even greater vertical integration on the one hand and independence from external suppliers on the other, subsidiary ST, s.r.o. is founded in 2002, in Sladkovicovo, Slovakia. State-of-the-art manufacturing machines process cast parts that are delivered to DMT ready for operation.

2014
Market introduction of the swivelling C-axis using Galaxie® gearing from Wittenstein at AMB 2014 in Stuttgart. Using the Galaxie® gearing, excellent milling results can be achieved and high forces transmitted.
2016
Within the course of the succession plan, the partners of DMT Drehmaschinen GmbH & Co. KG sell their company to the AD-PART Group, a company located in Saarland specialised in obtaining long-term stakes in technologically driven growth niches. In its 35-year history, AD-PART has never sold any of its 15 holdings. At the Lörrach headquarters, the lathe specialist now has highly qualified employees who are the foundation for the growing success of the company, ensuring high quality standards, flexible and prompt response to customer requirements and top service delivery.
2017
New development KD 400: With the introduction of the new EU safety standards, the grandfathering of old, conventional lathes ceases. At the same time, the market sees a high demand for “more modern” conventional machines which in contrast to previous generations allow the thread, ball or taper to be manufactured with two simultaneously operating axes. This and the increased requirements in training institutes for machines on which it is possible to train not only conventionally, but also towards CNC or controlled cycle systems, leads to DMT Drehmaschinen GmbH & Co. KG developing this new type of machine.
2018
Market introduction of KD 400 at AMB 2018 in Stuttgart. DMT Drehmaschinen GmbH & Co. KG celebrates its 25-year anniversary at a company event in its native Black Forest.
